It was once the largest fortification in the state of Mantua. To testify the ancient manor are the ruins of the walls, one of the access doors and a defense tower turned into a bell tower in the seventeenth century. Until the middle of the seventeenth century, the complex was equipped with fortifications, towers, crenellated walls and a drawbridge. The fortress was inhabited and it housed a twelfth century chapel, called S. Biagio in Castello.
